Apple Brown Betty

Four 5” ramekins.
Ingredients
Crumb Mixture
- 90 g flour
- 100 g sugar
- 100 g brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup butter
Apples
- 5 large Golden Delicious apples (about 1 kg), peeled and thinly sliced (no larger than 1” pieces)
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp butter
Steps
Crumb Mixture
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease ramekins.
- In a medium bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Refrigerate while cooking the apples.
Apples
- Combine apples, apple cider, brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
- Cook, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender but not mushy, about 7-10 minutes.
- Stir in butter until melted, remove from heat and transfer apple mixture to prepared ramekins.
Assembly
- Scatter crumb mixture on top of apples and bake for 30 minutes, until topping is crisped and lightly browned.
